Online Poker Tournaments

In recent month’s not just online poker but online poker tournaments have been gaining in popularity and the interest in them is still growing. Certainly once you start a search for online poker tournaments you will be amazed at the number of results that such sites as Google provide you with.

Today more and more poker sites are now offering players to join in on tournaments at any time they want to. Plus if you are a player who is looking to hone the skills that he or she already has when it comes to playing poker then taking part in an online tournament will be a great way to do this.

There are some poker tournaments available online which allow you to either compete against a computer or against other people. However playing against a computer is great for practicing and helping a person to improve the way that they play the game. But if you are someone who wants to actually be able to place bets and hopefully win the pot then there are sites that are available and which will allow you to play with others at a virtual poker table.

The great thing about taking part in an online poker tournament is you may find yourself playing not just against those who have the same level of experience as you but also some who may be completely new to the game or those that are considered to be professionals. Most games will often require a player to pay an entry fee in order to compete, but there are some tournaments which require no payment from their players whatsoever. The problem with the free tournaments is that generally the prize money (pot) that is available to be won is considerably lower than that you would get in a game where you have been asked to pay an entry fee. In most cases the online poker tournaments where a player has paid an entry fee this money will be included within the prize money that is being offered.

You will soon discover that most online poker tournaments are made up of multi tables. It is during these tournaments each player is provided with a set amount of chips to use for their betting. Then once the tournament starts each player at each table is trying to eliminate the others by winning as many hands as possible and therefore advance on to the next stage of the tournament. This will carry on until those that have survived the various rounds end up on the final table and they play until there is a winner.

However be warned when it comes to playing online poker tournaments you may well find yourself becoming addicted to them. In fact you may well find yourself playing in them for hours upon hours. But the chances of getting to know new people from around the world who are interested in this game is extremely likely. Certainly the popularity of these types of tournaments are going to increase all the time and as more and more people get involved in it then more and more tournaments will be taking place.

Learn The In's And Out's Of Poker

Poker is a card game in which a number of players sit together and play for money. In poker, players place the bet on the value of the combination of the cards which they possess. Usually, a central pot is used for placing the bets. The value of the combination of the cards is used to determine the winner of the game.

The player with the highest value of the combination of the cards wins the game. However, another way of determining a winner also exists and in this, the player who remains in the hand after all the other players have folded wins the game. A hand ranking hierarchy exists which is used to determine the value of the combination of the cards.

Poker is an old game and it wasn't very famous in its early days. It was in the 1970 that poker started gaining popularity among people. World Series of Poker began in 1970 and since then, poker has gained a lot of popularity and it's now one of the most popular games that are played all around the world. However, the credit for the sudden increase in the popularity of poker goes to online poker. At the beginning of the 21st century, online poker was introduced. Online poker is the game of poker that is played over the Internet.

A lot of websites are available that offer online poker and since it's very easy to access websites, poker gained a lot of popularity in a very short span of time. Also, the hole-card camera was invented in the beginning of the 21st century. This resulted in the broadcasts of the poker tournaments and the game turned into a spectator sport. These days, a number of poker tournaments are played at regular intervals and a lot of money is involved in these tournaments. Poker players are now considered as celebrities.

That being said, there a number of variations of the poker which follow similar hand ranking hierarchy and the patter of play is also similar to some extent. Mainly, there are three families of the variants and I talk about each below.

Stud: Stud is the oldest poker family and in this, cards are carefully dealt in a prearranged combination of the face-down and the face-up rounds. Betting is carried out after each round. There are also a number of variants of the Stud and the 7-card Stud is the most popular variant of the Stud. In the 7-card Stud, two extra cards are provided to each player and they're then used to make the best possible 5-card hand.

Community: Community is another family of poker and it can be considered as a variant of the Stud. In this family of poker, all the players are privately dealt an incomplete hand and the face-down approach is used for it. A number of face-up community cards are then dealt to the center of the table. Each of the face-up community cards can be used by the players so as to make a 5-card hand. Texas hold-em and Omaha are some of the popular variants of the Community family of poker.

Draw: The third family of the variants of poker is Draw. In this, a face-down complete hand is dealt to each player and the bets are placed. After the betting, all the players are allowed to make an attempt to change their hand and this is done by discarding the unwanted cards. In the process of discarding the unwanted cards, the player is dealt new ones. Most of the video poker machines play Draw.

Once poker has been mentioned or any gambling game, people would immediately think of the money they may loose in the process. While this is partly true, gambling is about either winning or losing money. Overall, a person who finds he entering a poker room should not be intimidated at first. Showing fear or hesitation upon entry will allow wandering eyes to prey on you and would love to play against you. Why? Well for one thing, they can afford not to look at their cards and simply resort to poker bluffs and they can get away with some chips from you. Poker is not purely about skill. It is also about what type of play a person wants to adopt as his battle cry.

Essentially, new players are oriented and usually taken to this group called poker school. While people may find going to poker school silly, it is simply the right way to approach games such as poker. Poker cannot be fully understood by people from mere reading and browsing of stuff through books or over the web. It includes things such as actual play and being exposed to the various instances that they may find themselves in. That is perhaps the most important thing; being able to handle the pressure and situation without having to wilt under the pressure and give up for lost.

But this does not mean that they have been playing poker all their lives. Initially they have had their share of frightening moments. It all boils down to handling the situation and being educated and versed on how to approach poker in any given situation.

Hence, poker is not purely about having the good cards. It is also working beyond the hands that you get. Other areas for consideration including the ones that are not even in close association of the game can be useful tools to the advantage of people who know how to use them. That is the beauty of being aware of poker instances, making them work for your advantage.

Bluffing, if something concrete would be developed to integrate it with the actual online playing we have today, then perhaps it would be a good weapon to combat these said bots which have been spreading like crazy over the web. While there is no evidence that bluffing can indeed be a stabilizing factor to offset the use of bots, it is the mental approach that a player which can throw bots off guard. The thing with bots is that it makes everything automated, calculating each move as fed by the various feeds of potential moves and probabilities in the game.

Alas, playing online poker has to be approached in the same way that online games are done, just play the game as you know it and hope that lady luck shines because that is all the privilege that they may ever get. Some may consider online playing of poker as fun and a part of the tutorial process.

However, taken up seriously, poker can take aspiring players to the next level. The next level of which is to play poker with the big boys, meaning the advanced players who have experience how it is to play fun and competitive poker. Once this happens, this is perhaps where the true test of poker knowledge steps in. Survival of the fittest and the wittiest; poker may just be a game, but minds will surely be twisting and twirling to get the advantage over the rest of the poker field.

History Of Poker

The history of poker is a matter of debate. It closely resembles the Persian game of as nas, and may have been taught to French settlers in New Orleans by Persian sailors. The name of the game likely descended from the French poque, which descended from the German pochen ('to knock'). Yet it is not clear whether the origins of poker itself lie with the games bearing those names. It is commonly regarded as sharing ancestry with the Renaissance game of primero and the French brelan. The English game brag (earlier bragg) clearly descended from brelan and incorporated bluffing (though the concept was known in other games by that time). It is quite possible that all of these earlier games influenced the development of poker, as it exists now.

English actor Joseph Crowell reported that the game was played in New Orleans in 1829, with a deck of 20 cards and four players betting on which player's hand was the most valuable. Jonathan H. Green's book, An Exposure of the Arts and Miseries of Gambling (G. B. Zieber, Philadelphia, 1843), described the spread of the game from there to the rest of the country by Mississippi riverboats, on which gambling was a common pastime. As it spread up the Mississippi and West during the gold rush, it is thought to have become a part of the frontier pioneer ethos.

Soon after this spread, the full 52-card English deck was used, and the flush was introduced. During the American Civil War, many additions were made, including draw poker, stud poker (the five-card variant), and the straight. Further American developments followed, such as the wild card (around 1875), lowball and split-pot poker (around 1900), and community card poker games (around 1925). The spread of the game to other countries, particularly in Asia, is often attributed to the U.S. military.

The game and jargon of poker have become important parts of American culture and English culture. Such phrases and clichés as ace in the hole, ace up one's sleeve, beats me, blue chip, call one's bluff, cash in, high roller, pass the buck, poker face, stack up, up the ante, when the chips are down, wild card, and others are used in everyday conversation, even by those unaware of their origins at the poker table.

Modern tournament play became popular in American casinos after the World Series of Poker began, in 1970. Notable champions from these early WSOP tournaments include Johnny Moss, Amarillo Slim, Bobby Baldwin, and Doyle Brunson. It was also during that decade that the first serious strategy books appeared, notably Super/System by Doyle Brunson (ISBN 1-58042-081-8) and The Book of Tells by Mike Caro (ISBN 0-89746-100-2), followed later by The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky (ISBN 1-880685-00-0).

Poker’s popularity experienced an unprecedented spike at the beginning of the 21st century, largely because of the introduction of online poker and the invention of the hole-card camera, which turned the game into a spectator sport. Viewers could now follow the action and drama of the game, and broadcasts of poker tournaments such as the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour brought in huge audiences for cable and satellite TV distributors. Because of the increasing coverage of poker events, poker pros are becoming more and more like celebrities, with poker fans all over the world entering into expensive tournaments for the chance to play with them. This increased camera exposure also brings a new dimension to the poker professional's game—the realization that their actions may be aired later on TV.

Major poker tournament fields have grown dramatically because of the growing popularity of online satellite-qualifier tournaments where the prize is an entry into a major tournament. The 2003 and 2004 WSOP champions, Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer, respectively, won their seat
